Smugglers’ Tithe: The abbey’s cellarer has struck a private arrangement with river traders to store untaxed salt and wool in the abbey’s undercroft, taking a cut for the house’s coffers. The profits fund genuine charity, but the Sheriff of Balimshire has begun to notice discrepancies in the hundred’s trade tallies and is quietly investigating.

Schism Within: Two senior monks are locked in a bitter theological dispute over the proper rites of ordination. The conflict has split the community into factions, and one side has written secretly to the metropolitan in Tashal requesting the abbot’s removal. If the letter reaches its destination, it could trigger a formal visitation that would expose the smuggling operation as well.
