Holik, 42, is a newcomer to Tashal, having spent years wandering the Kathela Hills collecting rare herbs and spices for apothecaries and physicians. He learned to speak the language of the Kath and lived among them for many years. Assisting him is Tula, 17, his stunningly beautiful half-Kath daughter who is lusted after by every young male in the city. Holik settled in Tashal in 718 as a means to expose Tula to civilisation. Business is growing, but both of them have a distant and wistful look in their eyes when they gaze westward over the Kald.
