Ailsa of Dwebin

nLiege: Baron of Nenda

Wife of Wealan of Dwebin, the Crooked Finger inn, Nenda

Ailsa is widely considered the greatest beauty in all Vemionshire — a distinction that brings her as much trouble as pride.

Appearance

Tall and fair-skinned with rich auburn hair and striking grey-green eyes. She carries herself with an unconscious grace that draws stares from travellers and locals alike. She dresses modestly, favouring the traditional Jarin patterns her husband prizes, but no amount of plain linen can diminish the effect.

Personality

Warm, perceptive, and quietly formidable. Ailsa runs the Crooked Finger’s kitchen and manages the household accounts while her husband tends the common room. She is more intelligent than people expect and has learned to use their underestimation to her advantage. She sees and hears a great deal — guests tend to speak freely in front of a pretty face — and she remembers everything.

She is fiercely loyal to Wealan, who adores her and treats her as an equal partner. She has no patience for the attentions of drunken travellers and handles unwanted advances with a sharp tongue and, when necessary, a heavy ladle. She has taken Galien of Heroth under her wing and is angry about the attack on the salt merchant’s cart.

Ailsa is a useful source of local gossip and observation for any PCs who take the time to speak with her. She has noticed Torben of Fhul coming and going from the timberwrights’ hostel at odd hours, but has not connected this to the salt trade.
