Heber is a young nobleman of Clan Caldeth, a relative of Earl Declaen Caldeth of Vemion. He serves as squire to Sir Gorlas Enaged, the knight commander of Nenda keep, and is due for knighthood within the year.
Appearance
A tall, well-built young man with the dark Jarin colouring of the Caldeth line. He keeps his hair cropped short in the military fashion and moves with the easy confidence of someone who has trained hard and knows it. He wears a plain surcoat over his mail and keeps his equipment in immaculate condition — a habit drilled into him by Sir Gorlas.
Personality
Earnest, capable, and not yet cynical. Heber takes his duties seriously and idolises Sir Gorlas, whose quiet professionalism he strives to emulate. He is well-mannered — the product of a noble upbringing at Minarsas — but not arrogant. He has the good sense to listen more than he speaks, though he can be drawn into conversation by anyone who shows genuine interest in swordsmanship or horsemanship.
He is uncomfortable with Baron Erelar Hirnen’s violent temper and treatment of Lady Yrene Eresar, but he follows Sir Gorlas’s example of loyal silence on the subject. He is privately relieved that his knighting will come soon and hopes to be granted a posting elsewhere — though he would never say so aloud.
